Best Campingaz BBQs: European Grilling Heritage

Campingaz is a French brand with over 70 years of experience in portable gas products. In the UK, they are best known for camping stoves and portable BBQs, but their full-size gas barbecue range competes directly with Outback and Char-Broil. We tested 4 Campingaz gas BBQs over 3 months, including the popular Adelaide 4 Classic and the compact Xpert 200 LS Plus.

Campingaz in the UK Market

Campingaz holds a unique position in the UK BBQ market. Their dual gas system works with both proprietary Campingaz bottles (click-on connection, no regulator needed) and standard propane bottles via an adaptor. This flexibility makes them popular with caravan owners and campers who already use Campingaz for cooking. The Adelaide range targets garden BBQ buyers with 3 to 4 burner setups, while the Xpert and Attitude ranges focus on compact and portable designs.

🔥

Xpert Series

Attitude Series

Gas Compatibility Guide

Key difference: Campingaz BBQs connect to Campingaz bottles (904/907) via a click-on system. No regulator needed. To use standard Calor/Flogas propane bottles, buy the Campingaz universal adaptor hose (part 5010002302, around £15 on Amazon).

In the UK, Campingaz 907 bottles (2.75 kg) cost £25 to £30 to exchange and last roughly 6 to 8 hours of grilling. For heavy users, switching to a standard 13 kg propane bottle via the adaptor is more economical, costing £30 to £35 for 15 to 20 hours of use.

"Campingaz InstaClean is the most underrated feature in the BBQ market. You lift out the entire cooking system for sink washing. No other brand at this price point offers that level of cleaning convenience."

Frequently Asked Questions

Q Can I use Campingaz bottles on any gas BBQ?
Campingaz uses a proprietary click-on valve system. Their BBQs connect directly to Campingaz 904 or 907 bottles without a regulator. You can also use standard propane bottles with a Campingaz adaptor hose, sold separately for around £15.
Q Is Campingaz propane or butane?
Campingaz 904 and 907 bottles contain a butane/propane mix optimised for outdoor use in European climates. Standard Campingaz cartridges (CV300, CV470) are pure butane. For UK winters, a propane adaptor is recommended as butane struggles below 5°C.
Q Where can I refill Campingaz bottles in the UK?
Campingaz bottles are exchanged, not refilled. You return your empty bottle and receive a full one at GO Outdoors, Halfords, Homebase, independent camping shops and some garden centres. The exchange costs £20 to £30 depending on bottle size.
Q Are Campingaz BBQs good quality?
Campingaz BBQs are solid mid-range products. The Adelaide and Xpert ranges offer reliable cooking performance with porcelain-enamelled grates and InstaClean systems. Build quality sits between Outback and Weber. They excel at portability and compact designs.
